PG&E offers rebates for residential cool roof system replacements

On Sept. 1, Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) began offering rebates for cool roof system retrofits of low- and steep-slope roof systems on residential buildings and mobile homes.

Low-slope roof systems (maximum 2:12 slope) with an initial solar reflectance greater than 0.70 and thermal emittance greater than 0.75 are eligible for a rebate of 20 cents per square foot. Steep-slope roof systems (slope greater than 2:12) with an initial solar reflectance greater than 0.40 and thermal emittance greater than 0.75 are eligible for a rebate of 20 cents per square foot. The rebate amount is 10 cents per square foot for steep-slope roof systems with an initial solar reflectance between 0.25 and 0.39 and an initial thermal emittance greater than 0.75.

To qualify, a residence must receive electricity from PG&E; be in climate zones 2, 4, 11, 12, or 13 (to determine the climate zone for your project, click here); and have a central air-conditioning system (portable systems and evaporate/swamp coolers do not qualify).
